Fennel
Foeniculum vulgare
250 seeds
Fennel Seeds offer a versatile herb where leaves, seeds, and stems can all be harvested for different culinary uses. The leaves have a delicate, mild flavour, while the stems and seeds provide a stronger, more aromatic taste that enhances a variety of dishes. Easy to grow and perfect for gardeners with limited space, fennel thrives in pots on a sunny patio or windowsill, making it accessible even without a garden. This fragrant herb adds a unique, fresh flavour to salads, soups, and roasted dishes, bringing an extra dimension to your cooking.
Outdoors: sow thinly, March-May, where they are to crop, 1.5cm (½") deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-drained soil, which has already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Thin seedlings to 30cm (1') apart. Water well until plants are established. Keep moist and weed free. If desired, plants can be kept smaller by pinching back regularly. Harvest: June-October. Pick leaves and stems as required. Harvest ripe seeds once they have turned brown.
