Tropical grass, the stalks and blades have a delicious lemon flavour. Grow in the greenhouse or pots indoors.
Herbs are so easy – you don’t even need a garden! Just a few in pots on the patio or windowsill will add that little extra to a dish.
Sow: grow indoors all year round in pots. Sow several seeds, 0.5cm (¼”) deep, per pot. Germination can be slow and erratic. Maintain a temperature of 20-30°C (70-83°F). Transfer to large pots or containers when plants are 10cm (4in) tall. Harvesting: remove leaf blades and stalks as required. Cut the stems at ground level, a few at a time. Culinary: chop for use with fish dishes, in stir-fries, soups and Thai dishes. They will impart a distinctive, citrus, lemon flavour.
