Botanical Name: Pisum sativum

150 seeds

As soon as pods are picked, the natural sugars they contain begin to turn to starch, so no shop bought peas will ever taste as sweet. The long, succulent, remarkably sweet pods can be eaten whole and used boiled, steamed or stir fried, as a hero ingredient or side dish. Plants are compact and high yielding, ideal for smaller plots, containers or raised beds. A good source of vitamin C, vitamin K and vitamin B1.

Sow outdoors where they are to crop, in flat drills 15cm (6”) wide and 5cm (2”) deep. Sow in a zig-zag fashion along the drill, allowing 5cm (2”) between seeds. Fill the drill with fine soil and firm down gently. Allow 60cm (2’) between rows. Alternatively sow directly into containers min. 30cm (12”) across. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 10-18 days. Early sowings benefit from frost protection. Sticks or twigs placed either
side of the row for support will make picking easier. Water well until plants are established. Successional sowings will ensure a continuous supply and long harvest. Pick regularly for the best yields.
